Alpa Bhakta

Chief Executive Officer, Butterfield Mortgages Limited

Alpa Bhakta is the CEO of Butterfield Mortgages Limited (BML). Initially joining Butterfield Private Bank in 2011, Alpa successfully led the transformation of the Bank’s property finance unit, ensuring it was suitably positioned to meet the changing demands of its high net-worth (HNW) clientele. In recognition of her service and achievements, Alpa was selected to head BML following its establishment in 2016.

For the last three years, Alpa has been responsible for consolidating BML’s position as a standalone provider of prime property mortgages across London and the South of England for HNW clients, both UK-based and overseas.

Under her leadership BML has become a renowned and respected lender in the UK’s mortgage industry, ensuring that even in times of political and economic uncertainty, BML’s HNW clients and their brokers are able to access the capital needed to complete prime property purchases.

In recognition of her achievements at Butterfield, Alpa has been awarded numerous industry accolades. Recently, she was named on Citywealth’s 2019 Transatlantic Selection, celebrating the “power women” on both sides of the Atlantic who are setting new industry standards when it comes to meeting the needs of ultra HNW individuals.

Prior to joining the Butterfield Group, Alpa held a range of positions for some of the industry’s most prestigious and recognised names, including BNP Paribas Fortis, Credit Agricole Indosuez and NatWest.

Alpa has worked in the financial services sector for more than three decades. Through this experience, she possesses insight into the world of both HNW finances and the property market that few can match, making her a much-respected figure in the mortgage industry.

Alpa is also regularly featured in the national, international and trade press, offering her expert insight on the property market and the key trends affecting HNW individuals and brokers. In 2019 alone she has been quoted in the Financial Times, Spear’s and Property Chronicle.
